This is what a hose reel should be. It has a hose guide that actually works and it has a tray on top to hold your "stuff". I had purchased one before about 10-15 years ago at a previous home I owned and it works just as well as the day I bought it. My only complaint is I had searched many hardware and gardening stores including the big box stores and couldn't find on and eventually found it on line and bought two.

I purchased this exact item 15 years ago and it held up perfectly until about a month ago. I was ecstatic to know that it was still available since the previous reel held up as great as it had. It's very sturdy and fairly easy to assemble. Great product and would definitely recommend purchasing!

There are several potential problems in the design of this unit. Most of the parts (except for nuts, bolts, fasteners and one metal support shaft for the reel) are plastic. A critical part, the rotating water tube/pipe, that supports the entire weight of the reel and hose is plastic! Although there is a metal shaft that mounts onto the rotating water tube, plastic supports the weight. Furthermore, the end of the metal shaft scrapes against the side walls while spinning with the rotating water tube. In other words, this will wear out very quickly. The unit comes unassembled, but the directions are adequate to figure it out. It took me about an hour to assemble it. Only one small screw was missing form the kit. Conclusion: I do NOT recommend purchase of this unit. Look for one made out of metal.
